EP22 - Think about the last time you felt crazy confident? Was it after a big accomplishment? Did you do something you were proud of and felt on top of the world? Was it one morning over breakfast as you had your coffee alongside your husband and your children and just felt fulfilled, content, and completely confident life was going well? When we reflect on what we have accomplished especially if it has been a long or a difficult road, we often feel confident in ourselves and our abilities.
Have you ever really thought about how your brain comes to believe you can handle whatever comes your way?
Your brain needs practice, experiences, and reinforcement. The more you expose yourself to new and challenging things, the more your brain will believe you can handle whatever comes your way. Ultimately, these are the building blocks for confidence.
Curiosity can help you achieve that practice, experience, and reinforcement.
Curiosity is what drives you to seek out new experiences and thus create success through trying new things. When you challenge yourself by stepping into new experiences you continue to build that bridge in your brain that you are capable of accomplishing new things. Each time you try something and succeed you become more and more confident.
It's also helpful to surround yourself with other people who are curious and want to constantly learn and explore. When we are around people who have accomplished things we haven’t we can learn from them, become more motivated to try things out of our norm, and again we become more confident. At the very least meeting people who have done something we never thought possible or didn’t believe we could do ourselves, allows our brains to explore the possibilities and if we maintain a curiosity we are much more likely to explore the possibility for ourselves.

Charlie interviewed me about my infertility journey and our experience of three back to back miscarriages. During the interview we talk about the missing support for women who experience miscarriage, child loss, and walk through an infertility journey. Each story is unique. How we process our experiences is important. Creating boundaries is important to your mental health and can be done in a way that is not disruptive to your friends and family. Often times our friends and family have no idea we are still experiencing pain because they don't have similar experiences to compare it to. You truly have permission to prioritize your mental health and recovery regardless of the outside input you may encounter.

EP16- Interview with my MOM!
Today is a special day.
I will be sharing a heartfelt conversation with my first podcast guest. I am beyond blessed and excited to share this conversation with you and even more proud that it’s my mother.
When you think back on your life you will find many people influenced you along the way. Today’s conversation is all about how I interpreted a few of the lessons I picked up during my childhood. My mother has always been a courageous and confident woman in my mind. I have looked up to her and often wondered where she got her strength.
I know the confidence I have inside me was molded from some of those lessons I learned watching her. Although this conversation is sweet, intimate, and primarily around the positive experiences we shared in our family, there are so many things we didn’t talk about that were challenging, unique, and equally as formative. We struggled. We fought. I disappointed her many times over my life.
As you listen, consider the stories and experiences you have that you could tap into that would give you guidance? Can you find experiences you learned lessons that were valuable and formative in a positive way?
In every family and every relationship there is a dichotomy of the good and the not so good. We get to choose what we focus on. What we give power to. The positive and the negative ebs and flows over a lifetime. We grow and expand into individuals that are uniquely created. We don’t always have to agree.
It’s actually a beautiful thing when we don’t agree and we are able to respect one another anyway. This is where the magic is.
What I am learning in my pursuit of a fulfilled and content life is how much I want to focus on the blessings, the good. One of the reasons I believe I am a great coach is because I have so many experiences that were not wonderful in life. They too molded me into who I am today. I have experienced trauma, and loss on a level many people don’t. Then again, how many of us walk around sharing all the hauntings of our past? I coach many people who have climbed mountains nobody has seen.
My hope is that this conversation sparks some memories in your mind of your upbringing. If it wasn’t your mother, that’s okay. Try not to focus on that. Who was there? Who did you look up to? What sparks of confidence did they instill in you? How can you tap into those experiences today?
Lastly, if you are a parent. Know that your littles are watching. They are wishing to be like you in ways you never knew. As a child I prayed for my mother’s eyes every evening. She didn’t know this until she was an adult.
Most importantly, they don’t care about the stuff you buy or the gifts you give. They care about the lessons you share and the MOST grand of them all the LOVE you give them. When you put down your phone and you meet them where they are. The moments you see them for who they are not who you want them to be. Dig in, get real. Be real.
